Eurovision 2021 - Semi Final 2 - 8. Iceland

8. Iceland

Qualifying Record: 8/15

Qualifying Record 50/50 era: 2/6

Running Order Record 50/50 era: 7/12

Current Country Streak: 1 Q

Current Running Order Streak: 3 Q

Just one year and one month ago, Iceland was getting ready to conquer Eurovision for the first time. Think about Things was the perfect package, Netflix was ready to launch Eurovision Fire Saga at the same time and Iceland would be the centre of the Eurovision world for a day. Little did we all knew.

DaĆ°i Freyr decided to come back, and 10 Years is a competitive entry but the comparison with last year is there and hurts its chances. It's exceedingly difficult to produce a song that is a potential winner. It's almost impossible to create two songs in two years that could win the contest!

Will be interesting to see the appeal that 10 Years will have to the viewers outside the Eurovision bubble. Qualifying won't be a problem.

Will qualify because...it is fun. Has televoting appeal and Juries have no reason to bury it.

Will not qualify because... Iceland decides to pull a Eurovision Fire Saga and sings Husavik instead. At least they were nominated for an Oscar.

The running order is not very televoting friendly.

Realistic expectations for the Semi: 5th - 8th

Similar Entries of the Past in the same Running Order? No similar entry in this running order.

Interesting Facts about the Running Order: Not the best slot for a song that relies on televoting. Only 5/12 Top-10s with 6th as the highest place. It is a tricky one for Iceland.

What happens next...: Not having Iceland in the Final would be an excessively major surprise. The problem is if the SF result is not in the Top-3, the running order of the Final won't be ideal and that could bring it further down. The win is out of the question now and Iceland will try to save as much as possible.

A drug dealer is pointing at you with a gun and threatens to kill you if you don't predict the Final Ranking: 8th - 15th
